Q: How does binding tape differ from webbing?

They serve different purposes. Webbing is load-bearing: it carries weight and goes into shoulder straps, handles and load points. Binding tape is a finishing tape: thin and soft, it encloses the raw fabric edge so it does not fray. It is not rated for breaking strength — what matters is softness, a clean edge and colorfastness. Gear manufacturers usually order both together in the same color — we dye them in one batch, so the shade matches.

We weave 22–23 mm and 25 mm serially — permanently in stock; 20 mm and non-standard sizes are made to order. Materials: cotton, polyamide (PA, nylon), polyester (PES) and polypropylene (PP). Prices in the table are for polyamide — the right choice where the product edge takes the most rubbing, since it withstands abrasion and dyes deep. Cotton is more often chosen for ties and labels, PP where lighter and cheaper is the point. Not sure which to choose — describe your product and we will recommend.

Ex stock — from 50 m. Standard winding — 50 m rolls. For automatic unwinding lines we wind onto spools up to Ø800 mm with an intact core — the roll goes onto the line without rewinding. For large runs we agree the roll length separately.

Twill tape, grosgrain, binding tape, edge binding — in practice these are all the same light tape 20–25 mm, just named differently by different trades. We weave it at our own mill in Kharkiv, operating since 2008: cotton, polyamide, polyester, polypropylene, in-house dyeing to any color, pattern printing. What it is called

Twill, grosgrain, binding tape — all the same product

This tape is hard to search for because mills and buyers use different vocabularies. On the loom it is a weave construction, in our price list it is "binding tape", in search it is "twill" or "grosgrain". Here is the plain version, so you know you are in the right place.

Twill tape (herringbone)

Strictly speaking, twill tape is a twill weave with a diagonal rib. Twill gives density and abrasion resistance, which is why this tape goes into ties, labels and seam reinforcement. We do run twill constructions, including broken twill.

Grosgrain (transverse rib)

A rep weave gives transverse ribs and a flat, dense surface that holds print well. That is exactly the rib you see on most of our narrow tapes — which is why printed patterns come out undistorted.

Binding tape, edge binding

This name is not about the weave at all — it is about the job: enclosing the raw fabric edge of a product. Same light tape, named after what it does. In our own price list it is "binding tape".

In practice we run roughly ten weave constructions, several of them twills, including broken twill. But buyers rarely need the construction — they need the tape to hold a knot, not to fray at the cut edge, and to be the right color. So do not spend time on terminology: describe the product or send us a sample — we will pick the construction and send you a physical sample for approval.

22–23 mm and 25 mm are our serial widths — between them they cover most jobs. The difference is not only in millimetres: 25 mm sits better on a thick fabric package with lining and insulation, while 22–23 mm looks neater on lightweight products and does not weigh the edge down. 20 mm and other sizes are produced to order — state the size you need in your request.

Prices in the table are for polyamide (PA, nylon) tape: it withstands abrasion on the product edge, dyes deep and does not shrink after washing. We also weave it in cotton, polyester (PES) and polypropylene (PP) — quoted on request. Prices for solid-dyed tape apply to our standard colors; a custom shade per Pantone or RAL is quoted from 1,000 m per batch.

Color, printing and finish

Binding tape is supplied piece-dyed in a solid color, with a printed camo pattern, or with a water-repellent finish. All of it is done at our own mill, no subcontractors — which is why the binding matches the webbing from the same order exactly.

Dyed in-house with instrumental color matching: X-Rite Color i7 spectrophotometer, ΔE control. Our highest-volume shades are coyote, black, olive and grey — the working colors of tactical gear. The palette holds 48 shades, including tactical AMS-STD-595 and RAL, and to order we match any color per Pantone, RAL or your physical sample (from 1,000 m per batch).

Camo patterns

Printed in-house: MultiCam-type, MM-14 pixel and "predator" patterns. Binding in the same pattern as the main fabric is exactly what gear manufacturers usually look for — the edge does not stand out as a contrasting stripe. We also print your logo or a custom pattern, with a pre-production sample for approval.

Yes — and most of the time both words point at the same thing: a light 20–25 mm tape for ties, edge binding, labels and reinforcement.
